What's new:

2025-26 Student Demographics and Enrollment Data

The first release of the 2025-26 school year! There are nearly 75,000 fewer students in California's TK-12 public schools compared with 2024-25. The number of English learners, foster youth and the unduplicated pupil counts have also gone down slightly. And the overall number of schools has decreased as well.

On Ed-Data, you can look up your school or district, and compare it with those nearby or sharing similar student demographics. Data are available at the school, district, county and state level.

In this release you will find:

2025-26 Census Day Enrollment including

  • Charter/Non-Charter Enrollment
  • Ethnicity
  • Gender
  • Grade
  • Socio-economically disadvantaged students
  • Foster Youth
  • Homeless students
  • Migrant students
  • Students with Disabilities
  • Enrollment by School/District type

Also find detailed data on English learners, Ed-Data's unique ethnic diversity index, the unduplicated pupil counts, which are uses as a starting point for funding calculations and the number and enrollment of charter schools.

In the summary section at the top of each school and district profile, you can find updated information on the status (i.e., open, closed or merged) and a link to each districts Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).

As always, Ed-Data's powerful comparison functionality not only allows you to compare schools or districts, but also view data for multiple schools or district side-by-side. Learn more about the how to use comparisons here

2024-25 School District Financial Statements

Find detailed data on revenues and expenditures for every K-12 school district in California. Data include detailed statements of General Fund revenues and expenditures as well as end-of-year balances, the state's "current expense of education" calculation, which shows how much a district is spending just on instruction, and much more. You can drill deeper into many of the tables for more detail, view graphs and click on the orange question marks to see the definitions for the accounting codes used in the tables. Financial data elements can also be added to your district comparisons.

Click on the Financial Data tab on any school district or COE profile. In the state profile, you can find state-level aggregates of the data. Please note that financial data are not available for schools or charters.

2024-25 Teacher Salary Data

Head to the Staff tab at the district level for data on average teacher salaries and benefits. The five-year trend graphs on Ed-Data show you the change in average salaries for a district along with the averages for all districts statewide and other districts of the same type. You can also drill in to see the lowest and highest offered and more. Other graphs on the page show you the change in teacher salaries, data on benefits and service and teaching days.

2024-25 Cumulative Enrollment

All the end of year data -- graduation rates, chronic absenteeism and discipline -- are based on cumulative enrollment, which is taken at the end of the school year. This count is different from the Census-Day enrollment , which is taken in October, soon after the start of the school year. The cumulative enrollment graphs include detailed data by student group, which you can access through the dropdowns above the chart.

2024-25 Graduation/Dropout Data

Visit the College and Career Readiness section of the Student tab at the school, district, county or state level for details on graduation and dropout rates as well as the percent of graduates who completed the courses required for admission to the University of California and California State University systems. Use the menus above the graph to drill in for more detail by race/ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status and more. You can also filter the chart to view students in charter schools or traditional public schools.

2024-25 Chronic Absenteeism

Statewide chronic absenteeism rates peaked during the Covid pandemic. While they have gradually decreased since then, they are still not at pre-pandemic rates. Ed-Data's 5-year trend graphs allow you to see how well a school or district has done at getting students back to school. Use the menus above the graph to drill in for more detail by student group or charter status.

2024-25 Discipline Data

Visit the Suspensions and Expulsions accordion under the Student tab for detailed discipline data, including the number of students suspended for "defiance only." Use the menus above the graph to disaggregate by race/ethnicity, grade, gender and other characteristics. At the district, county and state level,  you can view data for all students or filter to only see charters or traditional public school data.

2025 CAASPP/Smarter Balanced test data

Head to the Performance section of the Student tab for detailed results from the state's standardized Smarter Balanced tests, part of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP. Ed-Data has results at the school, district, county and statewide level. The 5-year graphs allow you to drill in to view results by gender, grade-level, race/ethnicity and by student group.

Our team has revised the colors on the charts so the colors are more distinct and the higher achievement levels are depicted in green and blue, rather than shades of brown and yellow.  In addition to the two main charts, you'll find six charts that enable you to compare the performance of student groups, such as homeless students, to all other students.

You can also compare schools or school districts on the percent of students meeting or exceeding the state standards, including by student group, or use the comparison filters to find schools or districts that are similar to yours.

Six Years of Staff Data: Teacher demographics, experience, per-pupil ratios and more!

Recently, the California Department of Education released new and improved staffing data. In response, we've revised and reorganized many of the staff data charts on Ed-Data. Here are some of the changes:

  1. Teachers are counted differently. In the new data files, certificated staff who are not actively instructing students are now classified as non-instructional support staff and counted separately from teachers. As a result, the "Teachers" graph on Ed-Data has been renamed "Certificated Staff" and you can drill in for detailed demographics for teachers and non-instructional support staff. At the district, county and state level, you can also find counts of teachers by grade span.
  2. More teacher experience data. In addition to the number of first- and second-year teachers, who are considered inexperienced, and the average years teaching in the district, we have a new graph that shows the number of experienced vs. inexperienced teachers.
  3. New staff education graph. You can now view degrees attained by teachers, administrators, pupil-services and non-instructional support staff.
  4. New school type drill in. At the state, county and district level, you can now disaggregate the data by charter or non-charter, or view for all schools.
  5. New data elements in comparisons: You can also compare schools or districts on factors such as teacher counts and per-pupil ratios. Plus, we've added two new data elements: counts of experienced teachers and inexperienced teachers.

These data are available at the school, district, county and statewide levels. To get to the data, use the menus at the very top to navigate to staff demographics, or click on the staff tab when viewing a school, district, county, or the state profile. Scroll down for a complete list of what's included in this release.
